Congratulations to our 2017 Pepperpot Awards Winners!

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) held its 49th annual Pepperpot and Achievement Awards event on November 14 at the Down Town Club in Philadelphia.

The PRSA Pepperpot Awards are a staple in the Philadelphia region, recognizing best-in-class PR campaigns, tactics and professionals. The “Pepperpots” were named by Bill Parker, APR, then-chapter president, as a play on the famous “catch-all” Philadelphia soup to represent the effort and variety PR professionals put into their campaigns.

The event honors public relations campaigns and tactics submitted by organizations across the Greater Philadelphia region. Nearly 100 entries were judged in more than 25 campaign and tactic categories ranging from short- and long-term events, to community relations and fundraising, to crisis and issues communications campaigns. Tactics included op-eds, websites, magazines, annual reports, feature stories, blogs and public service announcements, among others. Judging is conducted independently by partner chapters that are assigned by PRSA National. This year, members from the San Diego PRSA Chapter judged the entries.

One “Best in Show” award is given to the highest scoring campaign or tactic overall. This year, the honor went to United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey for its integrated communications campaign UNITED2FEED. UNITED2FEED is an annual, large-scale volunteer event that mobilizes 600+ volunteers to live united against hunger by packing emergency food boxes while connecting them to United Way’s brand and mission. A complete list of 2017 winners is below.

PRSA Philadelphia also recognized Amy Goldberg, MD, FACS and Scott Charles, MAPP of Temple University Hospital for their community outreach efforts with the Cradle 2 Grave program, as the recipients of the 2017 Integrity Award. The Integrity Award is given to an individual or team who has demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity to better the profession to which they belong and/or the community.

Community Affairs reporter for KYW Newsradio Cherri Gregg was the emcee for the evening.

Individual achievement awards were presented to the following outstanding PRSA members:

  • The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Anne Sceia Klein of Anne Klein Communications Group.
  • The Maxine Elkin Award for Distinguished Service was awarded to Rick Buck of the American Association for Cancer Research.
